How to start – GUE Discover Diving

The most important decision is already made: you are reading this, which means you are interested. But what should you know before you begin your training to become a scuba diver?

First, try diving with your chosen GUE instructor without a commitment to a course. GUE’s Discover Diving program is designed as an introduction for individuals with no previous scuba diving experience. This program does not result in certification but can serve as an introduction to a course or as a standalone experience. This experience will show you what you are really signing up for, what the training will look like, and help you determine if you and the instructor are a good fit.

GUE Recreational Diver 1

WHO IS IT FOR?

Whether you are new to the diving world, you’ve taken a course outside of GUE before, or you’re looking to improve your skills after a few years of not diving, the GUE Recreational Diver 1 course is a great starting point. This course will build the foundations for your diving skills no matter what attracted you to diving.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The GUE Recreational Diver 1 course is designed to develop the essential skills required for all sound diving practice. It allows the non-diver to cultivate a platform that supports comfort, confidence, and competence in the water, as well as more advanced training in the future.

A GUE Recreational pass means that divers will be certified to dive with their diving team without the supervision of a dive professional to a maximum depth of 70 ft/21 m.

GUE DPV Level 1

WHO IS IT FOR?

This course is essential for anyone interested in utilizing one of the most fun and efficient tools available to divers to cover bigger distances or carry more equipment with reduced effort.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Course outcomes include, but are not limited to: basic principles of DPV diving, dive planning, teamwork while using a DPV, environmental and conservation awareness, stress management, navigation, standard and emergency procedures, DPV maintenance and troubleshooting, and the potential hazards of diving with a DPV.

GUE Fundamentals

WHO IS IT FOR?

The GUE Fundamentals course provides all divers with an opportunity to advance basic diving skills. It provides the non-GUE trained divers (divers who are already certified with another recognized diving agency) with a gateway into GUE training.

It is a prerequisite for all GUE courses (apart from entry-level courses, Drysuit and Doubles primers).

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Course outcomes include, but are not limited to: GUE equipment configuration and use, trim and buoyancy, propulsion techniques including backwards kick, valve management (the course can be done using a single tank or with a double tank configuration), gas sharing, and SMB deployment.

This course will supplement training that divers may have already received and will give them more confidence in their basic skills even if they do not desire to go on for more advanced training. The course also includes the theory and use of nitrox.

GUE Doubles Primer

WHO IS IT FOR?

Anyone interested in the transition from wetsuit to drysuit to allow for longer dives in colder water will be interested in this course. This training is available for non-GUE trained divers and can serve as a basic introduction to GUE system.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Course outcomes include, but are not limited to: buoyancy, trim practice, and refinement; types, fitting, and use of drysuits, drysuit inflation systems, and undergarments; cold water diving specifics; and management of basic emergencies related to drysuit diving.
